A widening and reconstruction project in the northwest Tucson area has transformed a 4-mile segment of Interstate 10 since work began this spring, demolishing travel lanes, multiple bridges and two interchanges that have been in constant use for decades.

The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising motorists to plan ahead and expect to use detours as eastbound I-10 will be closed between SR 51 and US 60 from 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27 to 4 a.m. Monday, Oct. 30.

Following an independent study and public input, ADOT is raising the Interstate 17 speed limit between Peoria Avenue and the I-10 "Split" interchange near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport to 65 mph. The change is scheduled to be in place by the end of October. More in this news release.

An Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division office opened on the Human Services Campus near downtown Phoenix issued state IDs to 780 people in August, its first full month of operations. 

Fifteen groups with 123 volunteers answered the call to participate in this special event. Some of those groups have adopted highway miles through ADOT's Adopt a Highway program, while others joined in for the day. Other groups can follow their lead by adopting highway miles.
