The shared goal of enhancing safety in work zones is getting a helping hand from a $970,000 U.S. Department of Transportation grant recently awarded to ADOT and the Maricopa County Department of Transportation.

The honor from the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and its Arizona Minority Business Development Agency Business Center recognizes ADOT's efforts in the area of supplier diversity.

ADOT has completed a project designed to slow traffic and eliminate lane changes on SR 89 in Yarnell to enhance safety for pedestrians and drivers. This includes reconfiguring the roadway with new striping that only allows one lane of traffic in each direction plus a center turn lane.

ADOT has completed interim repairs and improvements to increase the capacity of a stormwater drainage system along US 180 in northwest Flagstaff, in an area below the Pipeline Fire burn scar. ADOT and the city of Flagstaff collaborated on the accelerated project.

A partnership between the Homeless ID Project and the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division is enabling clients at the Human Services Campus near downtown Phoenix to get replacement state-issued IDs without having to travel several miles to the nearest MVD office.

The restrictions will be in place during daylight hours Monday to Thursday starting Thursday, Aug. 3, and ending Thursday, Aug. 17. An ADOT project will remove and replace surface pavement. A website at azdot.gov/PavingRepairs details these Statewide Critical Pavement Repair Projects.

ADOT has completed paving work on a project that’s improved 9 miles of State Route 77/Oracle Road in the Tucson area. New pavement has replaced worn asphalt between Calle Concordia in Oro Valley and Miracle Mile in Tucson, and on Miracle Mile between Oracle Road and I-10.
