To get ready for fire season, Arizona Department of Transportation crews mow vegetation along highway shoulders in the winter and spring. They remove brush, thin trees and spray fire retardant within the ADOT right-of-way to prevent fires and slow the spread of those that occur.

State Route 377 will be closed between Holbrook and the junction with State Route 277, about 5 miles northeast of Heber-Overgaard, during the week of May 14 while the Apache Railway Co. replaces a railroad crossing, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Based on community input since the start of construction, the Arizona Department of Transportation is considering two additional interchanges for the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway.

A newly-built roadway adjacent to Interstate 10 in the West Valley will open to traffic this week, restoring 59th Avenue access after Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway construction required a permanent shift in traffic flow.

As work progresses on an interchange to connect the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway with Interstate 10 in the West Valley, another I-10 ramp will close to make room for the improvements.

The Arizona Department of Transportation is adding drones to help its engineering staff safely and more efficiently inspect hard-to-reach areas on some bridges and perform surveying work along state highways.
