In July 2024 the Arizona Department of Transportation started construction on a new system-to-system traffic interchange that will create a free flowing connection between Interstate 40 and US 93 in west Kingman. Construction is expected to be completed in approximately 2.5 years, through early 2027.

The project will require lane closures and traffic shifts into fall 2026

Work to improve a 14-mile stretch of US 160 in the Tuba City area in Northeastern Arizona is scheduled to start the week of April 6-10.

Drivers should allow extra travel time due to anticipated delays while resurfacing and other work, including guardrail and drainage system upgrades, are underway both in and east of Tuba City (mileposts 321-335).

Work in locations with more than one lane in each direction in Tuba City is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and on Friday mornings until noon. Lane closures and traffic shifts are planned.

Along two-lane sections of US 160 east of Tuba City, flag crews and a pilot vehicle will direct traffic through work zones one direction at a time. Work is scheduled in these areas from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and on Friday mornings until noon.

ADOT is working on the $20.5 million US 160 improvement project in cooperation with the Navajo Nation and Hopi Tribe. The entire project is scheduled for completion in fall 2026.

Expect delays at times when one lane is closed for repair project

A highway repair project along westbound Interstate 40 near Williams will start the week of April 6-10 with an around-the-clock lane closure.

With westbound I-40 narrowed to one lane, drivers should plan for delays, especially during peak travel times. The project’s location is approximately 3 miles west of Williams (milepost 160). Work is scheduled for completion by late summer. Flag crews will direct traffic as needed.

Pavement damage occurred during a multi-vehicle crash and fire in March 2025. Work elements include:

  • Removing temporary pavement
  • Replacing damaged guardrail
  • Adding new pavement
  • Installing lane stripes and other pavement markings

Restrictions will be in place at times, overnight paving work is planned

A project to resurface and make other improvements along a 19-mile stretch of State Route 64 in the Williams area is scheduled to ramp up the week of April 6. Some initial work, including the placement of portable message signs, has started this week (March 30-April 3).

Resurfacing along SR 64 will take place between the Interstate 40 interchange and Pipeline Road. Crews also are scheduled to add left turn lanes at several intersections, including Pronghorn Ranch and Sunset Strips roads.

Drivers should plan for intermittent daytime lane restrictions along SR 64 Mondays through Thursdays and Friday mornings.

Paving improvements will include upgrades at more than 50 driveways and pullouts. The resurfacing work is scheduled to take place mostly during overnight hours, typically from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights.

The $19.4 million project is scheduled for completion by fall 2027.

The NCAA Women’s Final Four is in Phoenix this weekend, April 3-5, and we wanted to take a moment and remind drivers to give an assist to their teammates on the road by using their blinkers getting to and from the big game.
