The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising motorists to plan ahead and plan to use detours as southbound SR 143 will be closed between Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) March 22-25.
March in Arizona means the sun is still warm and inviting, Major League Baseball teams are here for the Cactus League and hopefully your favorite college basketball teams are making their case to be invited to the NCAA tournament (Arizona, GCU, NAU and ASU, we are cheering for you). Another thing happens this time of year: Schools take a week off for spring break.

As Arizonans dig out green clothing and shamrock regalia from their closets and prepare to head out to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, we at ADOT want to remind drivers to have a game plan of how they’re getting home after the revelry is over.

Don’t leave it up to Lady Luck. Have a plan: whether that’s hailing a rideshare vehicle, designating a driver, or phoning a friend.

Construction scheduled to begin this summer

US 93/I-40 West Kingman TI Project Map

The Arizona State Transportation Board has awarded a $106 million construction project to build a new system-to-system traffic interchange at the junction of Interstate 40 and US 93 in west Kingman and Mohave County.

The contract was awarded to Fisher Sand & Gravel Company during the transportation board’s March 15, monthly meeting. Construction is expected to begin this summer and take approximately 2 and a half years to be complete.

ADOT has monitored the increasing traffic growth and congestion in west Kingman that has occurred over the years. The traffic volume is more than the current interchange is designed to accommodate.

The new interchange will:

  • Address existing traffic backups and delays on I-40 and US 93.
  • Relieve traffic congestion on Beale Street.
  • Improve travel between I-40 and US 93.
  • Accommodate projected traffic volumes for the next 25 years.

More information will be provided before construction gets underway. To sign up for project-related traffic alerts and updates sent directly to your email inbox, visit azdot.gov/WestKingman.
