UPDATE: Alternating lane restrictions and ramp closures on I-10 in Quartzsite scheduled May 28-31

This advisory adds new construction dates

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan ahead for lane restrictions and ramp closures on east- and westbound Interstate 10 in Quartzsite.

The following restrictions will occur beginning Tuesday, May 28, and ending Friday, May 31, for paving.

  • Dome Rock Road underpass will be reduced to one lane with alternating traffic controlled via flaggers from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • East- and westbound I-10 will be reduced to one lane between Dome Rock Road to Scaddan Wash (milepost 11 to 24) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • The westbound Dome Rock Road off-ramp (Exit 11) will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Detour: Motorists may travel westbound to Tom Wells Road (Exit 5).
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph.
  • A 14-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place.

Drivers should plan for delays, obey posted speed limits and traffic control devices and use caution around construction personnel.

When the Diamond Fire blazed near State Route 87 in late-July, ADOT crews from Payson were dispatched to set up traffic control to provide space for firefighters to work to contain the wildfire.

While doing this, crews found a pup fleeing the fire. They called her “Sunflower,” naming the pitbull-mix after the nearby town where she was found on July 26.
