PHOENIX – Arizonans can now renew their vehicle registration while shopping at one of the world’s largest retailers.

Through CheckFreePay® from Fiserv, the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division has made it possible for customers to renew vehicle registration with cash or debit at Walmart stores.

PHOENIX – Renewing a standard Arizona driver license and a commercial driver license can now be completed with a few clicks on a website.

As Governor Doug Ducey’s Executive Order on deferring standard driver license expiration dates ends on Feb. 28, the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division is giving many Arizonans the ability to renew their driver license online. Previously, renewals could only be processed during an office visit.

PHOENIX – More than 1.5 million Arizonans have discovered the safest, fastest and most convenient way to complete services with the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division.

Since launching in April 2020, more than 1.5 million Arizonans have activated their free AZMVDNow.gov account, giving them access to the primary online portal for MVD customers.

PHOENIX – When commercial truckers purchase their permits for driving through Arizona online ahead of time or use a cashless method at the port of entry, they spend less time making payments and get on their way faster.

That’s one reason the Arizona Department of Transportation successfully implemented a pilot program to move to a fully-cashless permitting system. Now, after working with trucking companies that pay with cash to ensure they have enough time to convert to a cashless system, ADOT’s ports of entry intend to go fully cashless on Jan. 1, 2021.

PHOENIX – Several major bridge and intersection replacement projects in southern Arizona presented a big challenge for the Arizona Department of Transportation in 2020: How to replace existing structures or entire interchanges without closing highways on projects that last up to two years.

The agency applied several innovative approaches to do just that, keeping passenger vehicles and commerce moving while minimizing potentially disruptive restrictions and closures.

Customers can now go to the web and schedule an in-office appointment for any service at Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division offices. Previously, in-office appointments could be scheduled online for a selection of transactions.

PHOENIX – Using an innovative bridge slide technique that accomplishes in days what ordinarily would take months, construction crews have placed a new Fourth Street bridge over Interstate 40 in Flagstaff.

The new, wider bridge will improve traffic flow and have a dedicated path for bicycles and pedestrians connecting the Flagstaff Urban Trail System across the interstate.

PHOENIX – The days of Commercial Driver License (CDL) customers only being able to go to a handful of MVD offices for those services are over.

The Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division now offers most CDL services at all full-time MVD locations statewide. Previously, CDL customers were required to travel to a limited number of MVD locations.

These words describe the new process of using ADOT’s E-Grants system to process planning invoices from Councils of Governments (COGs) and Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) that receive funds from both the Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration. Since its launch six months ago, ADOT has reduced the reimbursement processing time from an average of 33 days to four days. So, how did the teams at our Multimodal Planning Division and Financial Management Services do it?

More potential teen drivers are choosing to take the learner’s permit test online than ever before. For the first time since the Permit Test @ Home was introduced in March, 2018, more tests are being taken online than at MVD offices.

Data for the month of November show that slightly more than 50 percent of all permit tests were taken using the Permit Test @ Home as opposed to just over 49 percent of tests taken at an MVD office. By comparison, in November, 2018, office tests outpaced online testing by approximately 57 percent to 43 percent.

PHOENIX – A new technique that basically slides precast bridges into place has greatly reduced delays for the Bellemont community with an Arizona Department of Transportation project replacing spans over Interstate 40 at Transwestern Road west of Flagstaff.

Using this technique, which the contractor proposed, allowed crews to replace the bridges during a nine-day closure of Transwestern Road over I-40 rather than having the six to eight months of restrictions required for a traditional bridge replacement project.
