Drivers traveling along southbound Interstate 17 during the overnight hours next week should plan for closures of I-17 at Bumble Bee Road (milepost 248) for ongoing work to reconstruct the southbound Bumble Bee bridge as part of the I-17 Improvement Project.

Pavement improvement work is reducing the freeway down to one lane for three miles from State Route 74 (Carefree Highway) to Dixileta Drive. Drivers should plan for delays, especially from afternoon into early evening on Saturday and Sunday, and may want to consider traveling through the area earlier or later. 

The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising motorists to plan ahead and expect delays as Westbound I-10 will be closed between US 60 and I-17 from 10 p.m. Friday, July 19, to 4 a.m. Monday, July 22, for a traffic shift.

The $8.2 billion program puts a major emphasis on improving highway pavement and bridge infrastructure beyond Maricopa and Pima counties. It provides more than $2.5 billion for these high-priority improvements during the next five years.
