The ADOT founded Partnering Community of Practice (PCoP) was formed in October 2019 and started with 5 states meeting quarterly. It now comprises 12 states whose members are state level executive leaders or management and directly involved in their states partnering program or program development efforts. As a WASHTO subcommittee, the members are committed to advancing partnering principles by:

HOLBROOK – State Route 77, known locally as Navajo Boulevard, will be closed in both directions at the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad crossing in Holbrook. The highway closure is expected to start at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, so the railroad company can replace the crossing, and last through Tuesday, Oct. 25. Drivers are urged to plan ahead for the closure.

PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Transportation has 200 snowplows and is calling on the public to give names to some of them.

Wait, there are snowplows in Arizona?

PHOENIX-Motorists in the Southeast Valley will likely notice a smoother and more efficient commute on eastbound Interstate 10, as the Arizona Department of Transportation has increased the number of travel lanes south of Baseline Road in conjunction with the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project.

PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Transportation has been awarded a nearly $13.3 million grant that will provide funding for a wider, safer US 95 between Yuma and the Yuma Proving Ground.

The U.S. Department of Defense awarded the grant funds to ADOT this month as part of its Defense Community Infrastructure Pilot Program. The grant is intended to help personnel and equipment travel to military installations more safely and reliably.

PHOENIX-The Arizona Department of Transportation advises motorists to allow extra travel time and plan to use detours if their weekend plans include travel on Interstate 10 in the Southeast Valley this weekend. I-10 will be closed in both directions - but at different times - and numerous on- and off-ramps will be closed.

Westbound I-10 Closure

PHOENIX – Earlier this month, 39 Arizona Department of Transportation Adopt a Highway Volunteer groups consisting of more than 200 individuals hit the highways across the state to pick up trash for National Clean Up Day. The groups collectively picked up more than two tons of litter and debris.

“We are so thankful to our volunteers who came out for National Clean Up Day this year,” said Mary Currie, ADOT’s Adopt a Highway coordinator. “Our volunteers help us keep the highways clean year round.”

PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) has updated the road test for new drivers as drivers will be asked to provide proof of insurance and registration prior to the exam.

“These changes are intended to provide a consistent experience at any of the MVD offices or authorized third party locations across Arizona,” said Mike Cryderman, MVD field operations administrator. “This new process continues our vision to become the safest, most reliable transportation system in the country.”

PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Transportation and the Tonto National Forest are starting a project this week to pave and make other improvements to an 11-mile gravel section of the highway between Apache Lake and the Theodore Roosevelt Dam. 

The work includes installing an aggregate base and covering it with a chip seal, in addition improving drainage features that are not functional or have been damaged by flooding. The project will also improve sight lines at five locations.

PHOENIX – While crews have been working behind the scenes at the Sunset Point Rest Area along Interstate 17 at milepost 252 since July, the next phase of work will require the rest area to close to the general public on Wednesday, Sept. 28.

During the closure, commercial truck drivers will be allowed to continue using Sunset Point to park their vehicles and get some rest. Although facilities will be limited, portable restrooms and handwashing stations will be provided for commercial drivers to use.

PHOENIX - The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising motorists to plan ahead, expect delays and allow extra travel time if they travel on Interstate 10 in the Southeast Valley this weekend. 

PHOENIX – Beginning later this month, qualified veterans will be eligible to receive a tax exemption for a vehicle or trailer.

A change to state law approved in the most recent Arizona legislative session will grant a full VLT exemption to a Purple Heart recipient that was honorably discharged from military service on one vehicle or trailer beginning September 24, 2022. Proof of honorable discharge and award of a Purple Heart Medal is required.  

Arizona is one of the first states in the nation to have its Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Deployment Plan given the stamp of approval from the Federal Highway Administration.

The Arizona Department of Transportation-Motor Vehicle Division encourages consumers to protect themselves when buying a used vehicle, either from a private party or a used vehicle dealer and advises to follow these steps:

Upgraded speed limit signage and pedestrian crossing signage on US 89 entering the community of Yarnell are among the immediate measures being taken by the Arizona Department of Transportation to address safety issues following a recent fatal crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian. 

PHOENIX – As more people began getting back to traveling in 2021, the number of traffic fatalities rose for a second straight year to their highest levels in 15 years, according to the most recent Arizona Motor Vehicle Crash Facts report published Wednesday, Sept. 7.

The number of those killed in traffic collisions rose from 1,054 in 2020 to 1,180 in 2021, an increase of 12%. The total number of traffic crashes also rose by 22% as people drove an estimated 8.1 billion more miles last year than in 2020. 

PHOENIX –The Arizona Department of Transportation advises motorists to plan ahead if they are going to travel on westbound Interstate 10 in the East Valley this weekend.

Westbound I-10 will be closed between US 60 and State Route 143 from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, to 7 a.m. Sunday, Sept.11, as crews with the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project continue to work on the new Broadway Road bridge. 

The following ramps will also be closed:

PAYSON – The Arizona Department of Transportation is starting a pavement replacement project on State Route 87 south of Payson in order to create a smoother driving surface and extend the life of the roadway.

The project will start on Tuesday, Sept. 6, north of the community of Rye and stretch nine miles up to Indian Road, which is mileposts 241 to 250. Drivers heading to and from the Valley and Payson and the White Mountains area should expect lane restrictions and travel delays during the project.

PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Transportation’s Enforcement and Compliance Division and the Department of Public Safety want to remind commercial vehicle drivers to make sure their brakes are properly working during Brake for Safety Week Aug. 21-27.
