The Arizona Department of Transportation is launching a $613 million, approximately four-year project to extend Loop 303 southward in the West Valley from Van Buren Street to Maricopa County 85.

Joe Heller, our resident engineer on a big project getting underway in the North Valley, joins On the Road With ADOT this week to explain what's coming over the next two and a half years, including a flyover ramp connecting northbound I-17 with Loop 303.

A major component of the work will be building the direct ramps to create the freeway-to-freeway interchange. When completed over the next two-and-a-half years, drivers will skip the traffic signals at the current Loop 303/I-17 diamond interchange.

Several large Arizona Department of Transportation projects are set to get underway along Phoenix-area freeways in 2026, including the first projects funded under Proposition 479 approved by Maricopa County voters in 2024.

ADOT has opened a second lane leading into and along the northbound I-17 exit at Loop 303 to provide more capacity for traffic, especially during busy rush hours. Learn more here.

We're excited to share that an ADOT project that added Loop 303 interchanges at 43rd and 51st avenues is a national finalist for top honors in the 2024 America’s Transportation Awards. We also want Arizonans to know that one of those honors, the People’s Choice Award, is decided by the public.  

To help keep traffic moving through the work zone, Loop 303/Sonoran Desert Drive will be closed under I-17. Eastbound Loop 303 traffic can reach northbound I-17 by taking I-17 southbound to Happy Valley Road. 

The $70 million project is a top 12 finalist in the 2024 America’s Transportation Awards competition, making it eligible for the Grand Prize and the People’s Choice Award. You can vote for the People’s Choice Award once daily through Oct. 29.

A recent Arizona Department of Transportation project that constructed Loop 303 interchanges at 43rd and 51st avenues near Interstate 17 is a winner in the 2024 America’s Transportation Awards competition that includes a focus on community development.

Lane restrictions for pavement sealing work are scheduled along US 60 (Grand Avenue) between 163rd Avenue (west of Loop 303) and Center Street in Wittmann this weekend. Allow extra travel time. Learn more in this ADOT news release.

Loop 303 is scheduled to be narrowed to one lane in both directions near the Northern Avenue and Northern Parkway interchanges Monday through Thursday nights, July 17-20, for pavement maintenance.

ADOT to hold two public meetings May 10 and 11 about plans for a new four-mile segment of Loop 303 south of Van Buren Street in Goodyear. The meeting on May 10 will be held at Desert Edge High School while a virtual meeting is scheduled on May 11.

A widening project is underway along Loop 303 along with preparations a connection to the city of Peoria’s Jomax Parkway.

West Valley drivers have improved freeway access with the opening of new freeway ramps. It's all part of building you a better freeway.

GOODYEAR – Major work on the freeway interchange connecting Interstate 10 and Loop 303 in the West Valley has been completed.

The Arizona Department of Transportation has now opened all four of the new ramps that allow drivers to make direct connections between I-10 and Loop 303. Three ramps were opened to traffic Sunday night, Oct. 8. Construction crews on Monday opened the fourth ramp, which connects westbound I-10 to southbound Loop 303.

A new section of Loop 303 traveling under I-10 between Thomas Road and Van Buren Street in Goodyear also is open to traffic.
