There is an impending federal change to High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane exemptions. HOV lane usage by alternative fuel vehicles is regulated by 23 U.S.C. 166(b).  This federal law was enacted in 2005 and includes an expiration date of September 30, 2025.

If Congress does not extend the exemption expiration date, owners of alternative fuel vehicles and vehicles with Energy Efficient plates will no longer qualify you to use HOV lanes with less than two people in the vehicle during restricted times.

US 163 Safety Improvements Map

Project Cost: $3.1 million

The Arizona Department of Transportation, in partnership with the Navajo Nation, has completed a safety improvement project along US 163 north of Kayenta on the Navajo Nation in far Northeast Arizona.

Us 60, SR 61 Project Map

Project Cost: $9.5 million

The Arizona Department of Transportation is working on a pavement rehabilitation project along US 60 between Show Low and Springerville. The 16-mile-long project is between State Route 61 and Wildcat Creek (mileposts 353-369). Construction is expected to be completed by the fall.
