SR 88 Roadway Improvement Projects
AZ Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP) SR 88(1) - Apache Trail Project
The Arizona Department of Transportation, in coordination with the U.S. Forest Service and the Federal Highway Administration, began an $18 million project in fall 2022 to pave and make other improvements to an 11-mile gravel section of SR 88 (Apache Trail) between Apache Lake and the Theodore Roosevelt Dam.
The work includes installing an aggregate base that is covered with a chip seal and updating drainage features that are not functional or were damaged by flooding. The project also will improve sight lines at five locations.
The goal of the project is to improve the resilience of the roadway during heavy rainfall, reduce the amount of repair work required after flooding and prevent further roadway damage that would limit public access. For more information about the project please click on the links below:
