PHOENIX – The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has announced that the deadline for air travelers to get a driver license or ID that complies with the REAL ID Act, including the AZ Travel ID, has been pushed back a full year to Oct. 1, 2021.

With this delay and the need to reduce customer traffic at MVD locations during this public health situation, all current AZ Travel ID appointments have been canceled. Customers are urged to delay getting an AZ Travel ID until the coronavirus situation has passed to reduce customer traffic at MVD offices.

More than two-thirds of MVD services are available anytime at ServiceArizona.com.

Additionally, customers with a license or permit set to expire between March 1 and Sept. 1 have had that expiration date automatically extended by six months and updated on your motor vehicle record. They do not need to get a new license at this time.

PHOENIX – In order to safely and efficiently serve customers during the ongoing health situation, the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division will limit office visits to only those customers who need essential services that must be done in person.

Two-thirds of MVD services are available online, yet many of the nearly 12,000 daily customers statewide visit offices to process transactions that could be accomplished through ServiceArizona.com. Beginning Monday, March 23, appointments will be required for any in-office services. Walk-in customers will be directed to access services online or by phone, or if necessary, to make an appointment to return.

Authorized Third Party offices are not affected by this change and may have services available.

Additionally, in compliance with Governor Doug Ducey’s executive order of March 19, expiration dates for customers whose license or permit expires between March 1 and Sept. 1 have been extended for six months. MVD will automatically update affected customers’ motor vehicle records to reflect that change. Customers may also request a duplicate license through ServiceArizona.com, but this is optional.

“These extraordinary measures are needed because the safety of MVD customers and employees is our first priority,” said MVD Director Eric Jorgensen.

Beginning Monday, March 23, a new statewide customer service phone call-in system at 602.712.2700 will begin operations between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Customers may set up office appointments for essential services that cannot be done on the phone. But in the vast majority of cases, customers will be assisted with those services remotely. A list of services that can be done entirely online can be found at ServiceArizona.com. Many transactions can also be done through the U.S. mail.

In many instances, the MVD staff member will help the customer access his or her AZ MVD Now account to process some services. AZ MVD Now is a secure, personal account that is already available to all current MVD customers through ServiceArizona.com.

Among the transactions that must be conducted in MVD offices are first-time driver license services, including photos, road testing and some written testing, commercial driver license testing, and some out-of-state title services.

To make an appointment for these in-office services, please call 602.712.2700 Monday–Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Customers who already have a valid Arizona driver license or permit and a photo on file do not need to come to MVD in the majority of cases.

We here at the ol' ADOT ranch love the men and women who ply the roadways in commercial vehicles.

Whether it's driving a big rig all over the fruited plain or delivering doughnuts to the local gas station, commercial drivers are, in many ways, the lifeblood of our economy. (Kinda like doughnuts are the lifeblood of many of the hired hands here at the ranch).

But we digress ...

Because of our respect for these hardworking folks, we're proud to let the world know that getting Commercial Driver License (CDL) services at the ADOT Motor Vehicle Division has become a lot easier.

Time was, CDL services were only available at select locations throughout the state. We knew it wasn't the best way to do things, so we made a bold decision, and, well, improved the situation.

That's not a novel idea at the MVD. We're on a mission to continuously improve and implement the principles of the Arizona Management System, which is designed to empower all state employees to make changes for the better.

In the CDL world, this means most CDL services are now offered at all full-time MVD locations statewide and anyone who needs to get a CDL or most other commercial driver service doesn’t have to go to a special CDL office anymore. The only exception is commercial driver road tests, which are available at many, but not all, MVD locations.

You can learn more in this media release we put on our site.

And if there are any doughnut delivery drivers out there ... you know how to find us.

Happy Tax Season everyone! We know … you can hardly contain your excitement. Ah, the afterglow of the new year…

Holiday decorations come down. Beloved out-of-town family and friends return home – FINALLY! And of course, the most joyous event of all: your 2019 tax documents come in.

There are no parties, no presents, and the greeting cards would probably not be family-friendly.

We get it.

But we’re here to help. Really! In our own way, MVD can help.

If you’re like the rest of us here at ADOT ranch, you’ve probably found yourself trundling out to the garage, the carport or maybe the front yard – wherever you keep your vehicle at night – to grab the registration papers so you can copy them for your tax forms.

Yeah, that’s as much fun as pulling weeds in June.

But y’know what really IS fun? Having all that information in one place - at your fingertips, as it were.  And the good folks at the ADOT MVD have this covered.

You can print out or electronically copy all your 2019 vehicle fee and  tax information by clicking on the “Vehicle Fees/Taxes Paid 2019” link listed at www.servicearizona.com.  It’s free! It’s easy! It’s quick!

Did we mention it’s free? It is!

All vehicles, including autos, trucks, ATVs, trailers, street-legal golf carts, among others will have the information available.

Sometimes we minions at ADOT ranch are allowed to roam free and tell our friends and family about this great service. It seems like more people should know about it because everyone we see tells us this is great, and well, it is…

So try it out and if you like it (you will), tell someone and make their tax season a happy one.

OK … that may be too much, but at least a little less of a hassle.

You’ve probably heard of the Motor Vehicle Division. It’s the group of fun-lovin’ people who take your driver license photo, process a complex title transaction and a whole bunch of other really important things you need to get out of line and safely on the road.

Well now, the Motor Vehicle Division is really taking the “motor vehicle” part literally and getting itself on the road.

You might say how? And we’ll pause to allow you time to say that.

Thanks.

Now that we’ve been asked, we’re happy to tell you about the Mobile MVD office. Yep, MVD is hitting the road.

Earlier this year, MVD took possession of an RV that another ADOT division no longer needed and fitted it out with five service counters and a photo station so that most MVD services except for written and road tests could be offered. Oh, and it got a cool new paint job too.

In fact, there are several places around Arizona that have already seen this new office in their communities. That’s because with an ongoing training program that requires us to shut down an office for a week at a time, there are some areas that have been served by this mobile office to fill the gaps.

The office got a real test when a pipe burst at the Prescott MVD recently and had to shut down unexpectedly. So with very little prep time, the Mobile RV rushed to the pines and made sure services were available.

It’s a pretty cool thing. The technology allows customers to sit at a work station and have a live interactive video session with a service representative located either in Phoenix or Tucson. Mobile office personnel can assist customers and keep things running smoothly.

Of course, the office can’t replace a large MVD location, so things might take a little longer and we suggest that people might use it for urgent services.

But no matter what your MVD needs are, this office expands the ways we can do business and reach Arizonans more conveniently by putting the motor(home) in MVD.

Earlier this month, officers from ADOT's Enforcement and Compliance Division joined the Peoria Police Department's crisis intervention team for that agency's seventh annual Homeless Outreach Event.

The goal of the event, held at the Rio Vista Community Center, was working with social service resources, mental health providers, health care services, veterans assistance, other law enforcement agencies and, most importantly, the community to provide those experiencing homelessness with an opportunity to connect with resources they need. The community and law enforcement worked together to provide donations of products and services to help those in need, regardless of their circumstances.

The Enforcement and Compliance Division, with help from the Motor Vehicle Division,  assisted folks with applying for their Arizona identification card. These cards are crucial for them to obtain help with such things as housing, jobs and mental health care. This approach drew on resources from across ADOT's many divisions. The outpouring of support by all involved was a strong message to those in need that there is hope and assistance available.

The more than 50 homeless individuals who attended received multiple levels of assistance. Out of these attendees, five had the necessary documentation in order to be processed for their state identification card, while another attendee received help with the application. This important effort could not have been possible without the collaboration and cooperation throughout ADOT and our commitment to community service.

Having a driver license suspended is a serious matter, to say the least, and the repercussions can go further than restricting someone’s privilege to drive.

Since many people rely on their license as a state-issued ID, having it suspended often means needing a temporary replacement. Fortunately, the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division has made it less complicated to order a temporary ID card by introducing an online ordering option through ServiceArizona.com.

We know that people often need a valid ID in order to buy items at the store, go to the bank, and apply for a job among other things When customers are faced with a suspended license, it makes having a temporary ID card vital.

By adding this to our growing menu of online services, we’ve eliminated one more reason to be compelled to visit an MVD office. That speeds the process for all of our customers because it reduces traffic at MVD offices so we can better serve everyone who needs to come to one of our locations.

To get a temporary ID card, a customer must first have a suspended Arizona driver license. The expiration date on the suspended license must be beyond the six months the temporary ID is valid. Also, the customer must already have an Arizona license photo that has been taken within the past 12 years on file with MVD in order for the temporary ID to be produced.
