Expect delays at times when one lane is closed for repair project

A highway repair project along westbound Interstate 40 near Williams will start the week of April 6-10 with an around-the-clock lane closure.

With westbound I-40 narrowed to one lane, drivers should plan for delays, especially during peak travel times. The project’s location is approximately 3 miles west of Williams (milepost 160). Work is scheduled for completion by late summer. Flag crews will direct traffic as needed.

Pavement damage occurred during a multi-vehicle crash and fire in March 2025. Work elements include:

  • Removing temporary pavement
  • Replacing damaged guardrail
  • Adding new pavement
  • Installing lane stripes and other pavement markings

Restrictions will be in place at times, overnight paving work is planned

A project to resurface and make other improvements along a 19-mile stretch of State Route 64 in the Williams area is scheduled to ramp up the week of April 6. Some initial work, including the placement of portable message signs, has started this week (March 30-April 3).

Resurfacing along SR 64 will take place between the Interstate 40 interchange and Pipeline Road. Crews also are scheduled to add left turn lanes at several intersections, including Pronghorn Ranch and Sunset Strips roads.

Drivers should plan for intermittent daytime lane restrictions along SR 64 Mondays through Thursdays and Friday mornings.

Paving improvements will include upgrades at more than 50 driveways and pullouts. The resurfacing work is scheduled to take place mostly during overnight hours, typically from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights.

The $19.4 million project is scheduled for completion by fall 2027.

No vehicle restrictions in place from milepost 222 to 223.5

SR 88 from Fish Creek Vista (milepost 222) to milepost 227 near Reavis Trailhead Road remains an unpaved section of the Apache Trail.

Although there are currently no vehicle restrictions, severe weather or rockfall can affect conditions. ADOT recommends that drivers check the weather forecast before traveling, be confident in their vehicles and be comfortable negotiating the 1.5-mile section at Fish Creek Vista that is steep and more winding and narrow than other parts of SR 88.

For real-time highway conditions statewide, visit ADOT's Traveler Information Site at www.az511.gov or call 511.

The following overnight restrictions are currently in effect:

  • US 93, known locally as Beale Street in Kingman, is intermittently narrowed to one lane only with alternating north- and southbound travel between the community of Chloride and Fort Beale Drive (mileposts 48-71).

  • The restrictions are in place from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday nights through Friday mornings.

  • Flaggers and a pilot car are moving traffic through the work zone.

  • The speed limit is reduced in the work zones.

  • Vehicle wide restriction is 14 feet.

  • The restrictions are lifted each day after work hours and on weekends.
