Update reflects new lane restriction schedule

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises Payson and Star Valley area drivers to plan for early morning lane restrictions on State Route 260 as crews continue preparing the job site for the SR 260 Lion Springs Improvement Project.

The following traffic restrictions will be in effect from 3:30 to 8 a.m. Monday, June 22:

  • SR 260 will be intermittently narrowed to one lane with alternating east- and westbound travel between mileposts 256 and 260.

  • Flaggers and a pilot car will guide drivers through the work zone.

  • A 12-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place.

  • The speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph through the work zone.

ADOT advises drivers to plan for delays while the morning restrictions are in place.

Area drivers can expect multiple intermittent flagging operations throughout the duration of the project.

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), in cooperation with the City of Phoenix and the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG), is studying I-10 between the Deck Park Tunnel (near downtown) and the “Split” interchange where I-10 meets I-17 near Sky Harbor Airport. The study also looks at nearby connections like SR 51 and Loop 202 because traffic in this area is all interconnected. See below for more information.

ADOT is seeking input from the community to support the development of study alternatives.

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to prepare for delays along US 60 between Show Low and Springerville in the White Mountains area as a pavement project resumes work between State Route 61 and Wildcat Creek Thursday, May 28, after a winter hiatus.

Drivers should expect the following restrictions from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays:

  • US 60 will be reduced to one lane only in 3-mile segments with alternating east- and westbound travel between SR 61 and Wildcat Creek (mileposts 353-369).
  • Drivers will be directed through the work zone by flaggers and a pilot car.
  • A 12-foot vehicle-width restriction will be in place.
  • Drivers need to be prepared to make frequent stops when approaching and driving through the work zone and use caution around construction personnel and equipment while the restrictions are in place.
  • Restrictions will be lifted each day after work hours; however, reduced speed limits will remain in effect.
  • No work is planned for weekends or state holidays.

The restrictions are needed so crews can apply a chip seal pavement treatment to the roadway, which should be completed by mid-June.

Crews will return approximately 30 days later to permanently stripe the new section of road, completing the project.
