Last year, about 6,000 volunteers picked up 12,500 bags of trash from along Arizona’s highways. The equivalent dollar amount associated with this volunteer effort is about $628,785. Considering that  — that’s a lot of dollars that could be used to dispose of trash properly.

Project Cost: $5,900,000

The Arizona Department of Transportation is initiating a project to improve a 15-mile stretch of US 89A, southeast of Fredonia and about 20 miles from the Utah state line (mileposts 579 - 594). The project in Coconino County includes removing the existing asphalt and replacing it with new pavement. It also includes pavement markings, rumble strips and other related work.
