Northwest Regional Improvements US 93 and I-40

ADOT has more than 20 current and upcoming projects on the Interstate 40 and US 93 corridors across northwestern Arizona. The improvements include 48 miles of new pavement on I-40 and 84 miles of new pavement on US 93. 

There are also several projects that will widen the existing 2-lane roadway into a four-lane divided highway.

Project: Sanctuary Road to I-40
Project Elements: Remove and replace the existing top-pavement surface and make other improvements along a 23-mile segment of US 93 near Chloride, mileposts 48 to 71.
Schedule: Construction expected to begin in late 2025 and be completed in 2026.

Project: Cane Springs Improvements
Project Elements: Widen a 4-mile segment of US 93 from a two-lane undivided roadway to a 4-lane divided highway north of Wikieup, mileposts 106 to 110.

Schedule: Construction began January 2025 and is scheduled to be completed in 2027.

Project: E. Oldeup Road to 17 Mile Road
Project Elements: Remove and replace the existing top-pavement surface along a 13-mile section of US 93 near Wikieup, mileposts 131 to 144.
Schedule: Construction expected to begin and be completed in 2025.
Project: Big Jim Wash Improvements
Project Elements: Construct one additional lane in each direction on this 4-mile segment of US 93 and widen to a 4-lane divided highway between Wikieup and Wickenburg, mileposts 162 to 166.
Schedule: Construction expected to begin in 2026.

Project: Passing Lanes
Project Elements: Construct passing lanes near Wickenburg (mileposts 172 to 173 and 176 to 177).

Project: Wickenburg Ranch Way - Vista Royale
Project Elements:

Construct one additional lane in each direction and widen this 4.5-mile segment of US 93 to a 4-lane divided roadway.

ADOT received a federal grant to extend the length of an already planned widening project by 1.27 miles between Wickenburg Ranch Way and just northwest of State Route 69.

Project: Intersection Improvements: W Tony Avenue - North of Bonanza Drive
Project Elements: Safety improvements (striping and signing) at three intersections from W Tony Avenue to north of Bonanza Drive, approximately 40 miles north of Kingman, mileposts 27 to 30.
Schedule: Construction expected to begin and be completed in 2025.
Project: Cholla Canyon Ranch Rd - East Oldeup Hillside
Project Elements: Remove and replace the existing top-pavement surface along a 3-mile section of US 93 near Wikieup, mileposts 128 to 131.
Schedule: Construction expected to begin in 2026.
Project: Drainage Improvements North of Signal Road
Project Elements: Drainage improvements along a 4-mile segment of US 93, mileposts 128 to 132.
Schedule: Construction expected to begin in 2026.

Recently Completed (US-93)

Project: Legend Ranch Road - Date Creek Road Pavement Repair
Project Elements: Completed in 2024: Repair two segments of pavement on US 93 in Mohave County, mileposts 59 to 70 and 95 to 97.
Project: Gunsite Canyon Road - Gray Wash
Project Elements: Remove and replace the top pavement surface along a 10-mile section of US 93 located between Gunsite Canyon Road and Gray Wash in the community of Wikieup. Schedule: Construction started in March 2024 and is expected to be completed in summer 2024.
Project: Nothing - State Route 97
Project Elements: Remove and replace the existing top pavement along a 12-mile section of roadway, roughly between the community of Nothing and State Route 97, mileposts 144 to 156. Schedule: Work will resume in spring 2024 and is expected to be completed summer
Project: Tegner Street - Wickenburg Ranch Way Improvements
Project Elements: Construct one additional lane in each direction and improve this 5-mile segment of US 93 to a 4-lane divided roadway in Wickenburg, mileposts 194 to 199. Schedule: Construction began spring 2023. The project will be constructed over two years.

Project: AZ/CA State Line - Needle Mountain Road
Project Elements: Remove and replace the top-pavement surface along a 2-mile segment of I-40 between the Arizona- California state line and Topock, mileposts 0 to 2.
Schedule: Construction is underway and scheduled for completion in 2025.

Project: Needle Mountain Road - State Route 95
Project Elements: Remove and replace the top-pavement surface along a 6-mile segment of I-40 roughly between Topock and the junction with SR 95, mileposts 2 to 8.
Schedule: Construction is underway and scheduled for completion in 2025.

Project: Holy Moses Wash - Rattlesnake Wash
Project Elements: Remove and replace the top-pavement surface along an 11-mile section of I-40 east of Kingman, mileposts 47 to 58.
Schedule: Paving is expected to begin mid-2025 and be completed in late 2025.
Project: I-40/US 93 West Kingman Traffic Interchange
Project Elements: Build a new system-to-system traffic interchange that will create a free-flowing connection between Interstate 40 and US 93 in west Kingman.
Schedule: Construction began in July 2024 and is scheduled to be completed in early 2027.

Project: Andy Devine Avenue Bridge Deck Replacement
Project Elements: Remove and replace the bridge deck on the I-40 Andy Devine Avenue Bridge (Exit 53) in east Kingman.
Schedule: Construction is underway and scheduled for completion in 2025.

Project: Holy Moses Wash - Walnut Creek
Project Elements: Remove and replace the top-pavement surface along a 13-mile section of I-40 southwest of Kingman, mileposts 33 to 46.
Schedule: Construction is underway and scheduled for completion in early 2025.

Project: Rancho Santa Fe Parkway Traffic Interchange
Project Elements: Build a new Interstate 40 traffic interchange in east Kingman at milepost 57 that will provide a direct connection to the future Rancho Santa Fe Parkway and Kingman Airport.
Schedule: Construction started in December 2024 and is scheduled for completion in 2026.

Project: US 93 to Silver Spring Road
Project Elements: Remove and replace the top-pavement surface along an 8-mile section of I-40 southwest of Kingman, mileposts 72 to 80.
Schedule: Construction scheduled in 2026.
Project: Colorado River Bridge Replacement
Project Elements: Replace Colorado River Bridge #957 that spans between Arizona and California, mileposts 0 to 1. This is a California Department of Transportation project that is being done in collaboration with ADOT.
Schedule: Construction scheduled in 2026.

Recently Completed (I-40)

Project: Willow Creek Bridge #3 Replacement
Project Elements: Remove and replace the eastbound I-40 Willow Creek Bridge #3 located between the town of Seligman and the city of Kingman. Schedule: Construction started in 2023 and is expected to be completed in late 2024.
Project: Fort Rock Road - Markham Wash Bridge
Project Elements: Remove and replace the top-riding surface along a 16-mile section of eastbound I-40 between Fort Rock Road and Markham Wash Bridge, west of Seligman, mileposts 92-108. Schedule: Construction is expected to begin in the spring 2024 and be completed in late 2024.
Project: East Seligman Bridge Deck Replacement
Project Elements: Reconstruct and replace the east- and westbound bridge decks on I-40 at exit 123 near Seligman in Yavapai County. Schedule: Construction began in 2022 and will be completed in summer 2024.
Project: Ash Fork Creek Bridges
Project Elements: ADOT has initiated a bridge scour retrofit on four bridges along I-40 in the community of Ash Fork, mileposts 146. Schedule: Construction is expected to begin spring 2024 and be completed in late 2024.
